Oak Lodge are extremely proud to have participated in the Shakespeare School Festival for the last three years.
This year, 10 Oak Lodge students took part in an outstanding integrated performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival at RADA on 16th November.
The students collaborated with staff and pupils from the Brit School, travelling weekly to Croydon to create and rehearse a modified version of Midsummers with 22 Community Arts students and Lucy Harris, a drama teacher at the Brit.
It was a really exciting and confidence boosting experience for the pupils. They had the opportunity to work with older students and through this developed their own sense of maturity and artistic professionalism. The pupils had a lot of challenges to overcome. They had to master the translation of Shakespeare lines to BSL, learn their lines, understand the story, interact with hearing students and portray their characters with confidence. They did all of this successfully and created a really magical, moving performance.
